In this poignant piece on The New Yorker, Anand Gopal describes the life of Shakira, whom she met whilst travelling to the country to meet women under Taliban control. Gopal listened to Afghan women and their thoughts on the resurgence of the Taliban and the abandonment of women by Americans.
