Brand new Taipei Performing Arts Center picked to shine in 2021
Lyla Liu, Taiwan News – 1 January 2021
The Guardian recently published an article on the best art, architecture and photography exhibitions worldwide to visit in 2021. Although most of the exhibitions are in Europe, the list features the new Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC).
With its giant silver globe protruding from the side, the TPAC building is the epitome of modern-day Asian architecture. The firm that designed the building, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), described Taiwanese cuisine and hotpot as the source of inspiration for the building. You can see a full timeline of the construction of the centre on the OMA website here.
We referenced an article in Tatler Hong Kong at the start of December about the art collectors William and Lavina Lim generously donating a major collection of artwork to Hong Kong’s M+ museum. This museum is also featured on The Guardian’s list for its unconventional design.
You can read the full Taiwan News article about the TPAC venue and how they plan to use the space which opens in February here. The Guardian’s original article titled “Brutal Bacon, Wild Gehry and Unmissable Abramovic: 2021’s Best Art, Architecture and Photography” can be found here.
