Noel Lateef will be presenting ‘The Imperative of Conflict Prevention in the 21st Century’ in Edinburgh on the 15th of October. Noel Lateef is currently President and CEO of the Foreign Policy Association in New York. The Foreign Policy Association(formerly known as the League of Free Nations Association) is a non-profit organization founded in 1918 dedicated to inspiring the public to learn more about the world. The Foreign Policy Association aims to spread global awareness and understanding of foreign policy issues.

Mr Lateef was educated at St. Stephens School in Rome, Princeton University, and Yale Law School. At Princeton, he received advanced standing and majored in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, graduating with High Honors in 1978. At Yale Law School, Mr Lateef was elected Executive Editor of the Yale Journal of International Law and Editor of the Yale Law Journal. Upon graduation from law school in 1982, Mr Lateef served as law clerk to James R. Browning, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr Lateef was subsequently affiliated with Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. He assumed the position of General Counsel of The Bowery Savings Bank in 1986 and three years later was appointed Chairman of The Bowery Savings Bank. In 1995, upon the sale of the Bowery Savings Bank, Mr Lateef joined the Foreign Policy Association, where he is currently President and CEO. Mr Lateef is a member of the Century Association, the Council on Foreign Relations and numerous corporate boards. He is an adjunct professor of international law at SUNY Stony Brook and has authored over thirty publications, including a book on economic development in the Sahel Region of West Africa.”
