The mission of Lalage Snow has always been to give people a voice.
An award-winning freelance journalist, writer, photographer and film-maker, Lalage has covered war and unrest in the Middle East since 2007. This included making her home in Kabul for over 5 years. Her personal projects have been published and exhibited to critical acclaim around the world and have been featured on the Channel 4, BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera. She has also given a number of public talks at literary festivals, museums and academic institutions including MIT. A series of short films made in Afghanistan are currently on display at the Smithsonian, the worlds largest museum complex.
Lalage will share with us her surprising, tragic and beautiful journey through the darkest places of the modern world, revealing the ways people make time for nature even in the middle of destruction.
These experiences are captured in her global award-winning photography, TV documentary and her most recent publication called ‘War Gardens’. An inspiring, thought-provoking and incredible journey. The book takes us on a journey through Afghanistan, Gaza, The West Bank, Israel and Ukraine exploring private gardens tended to by civilians caught up in conflict and the universal search for peace. “What makes War Gardens the most illuminating garden book to be published this year, is the realisation that people’s gardens are the antidotes to the horrors of their surroundings.”Country Life
