Dear Followers and Supporters of the Asia Scotland Institute,

In support of government policy to contain the spread of COVID-19, we are having to modify the way in which we present our speaker programmes. The Institute team is now working remotely away from our base at the ECCI. Over the coming two months we plan on filming and distributing via our website some presentations by speakers and create webinars, where possible. This was something that we were considering as a strategic next step in conjunction with physical meetings which are now suspended.

We will continue to work with partners, sponsors and students to identify inspirational and relevant speakers to provide valuable insight on Asia. We will make greater use of technology and the digital environment to provide this content to our membership in different ways as we all deal with Coronavirus. Indeed, we recognise some members were, as a result of the virus, discouraged from attending the fascinating talk given by Doctor Howard Dryden on how to address climate change, last night. Accordingly, we will provide a short video interview with Doctor Dryden and the detail of his talk on our website in the next few days. We also plan to employ greater use of digital resources to provide discerning online content from leading experts on Coronavirus and global pandemics very soon.

We continue to develop our 2020 event programme and we will aim to recommence our normal live events in Scotland as soon as possible. Clearly, in the current context it is not possible to calendar these events, but we have a commitment from a remarkable group of business leaders and Asian experts to come and talk to us.  The list below provides a brief preview of what you can expect in the future:

HE Ambassador An, Vietnamese Ambassador to UK – on Vietnam and its economy and its position within the ASEAN region;
