The Asia Scotland Institute has modelled itself around Asia Society in its efforts to create stronger awareness and partnerships between Scotland and Asia. Moreover, the Asia Scotland Institute continues to benefit greatly from its association with the Asia Society. It is therefore appropriate that the Asia Society explain its work and activities to the Institute.

The Asia Society is a leading educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders, and institutions of Asia and the United States in a global context. Across the fields of arts, business, culture, education, and policy, the Society provides insight, generates ideas, and promotes collaboration to address present challenges and create a shared future.

Founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, Asia Society is a nonpartisan, nonprofit institution with major centres and public buildings in New York, Hong Kong, and Houston, and offices in Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, Mumbai, SanFrancisco, Seoul, Sydney, Tokyo, Washington, D.C., and Zurich. The symbol of the Asia Society is the leogryph.

We are extremely fortunate that Tom Nagorski, Asia Society’s, Executive Vice President will talk to us in a webinar on 22 July at 1500 hours (BST). He will explain the workings of their larger organisation and its significant benefits to the education sector, businesses and government.

Tom Nagorski became Executive Vice President of the Asia Society following a three-decade career in journalism — having served most recently as Managing Editor for International Coverage at ABC News. Before that, he was Foreign Editor for ABC’s World News Tonight, and a reporter and producer based in Russia, Germany, and Thailand. Nagorski was the recipient of eight Emmy awards and the Dupont Award for excellence in international coverage, as well as a fellowship from the Henry Luce Foundation. He has written for several publications and is the author of Miracles on the Water: The Heroic Survivors of a World War II U-Boat Attack.
