Afghanistan – A country or tribes at war?

Afghanistan - A country or tribes at war?

Event Description

The Asia Scotland Institute and the Defence and Security Forum (DSF) co-host this webinar with Bruce Riedel, as well as comments from Martin Rahmani, for this important discussion of the future of Afghanistan.

Bruce Reidel recently wrote for Brookings that “Pakistan is a winner again in Afghanistan. It has now outlasted two superpowers. The Pakistani army generals will be more hubristic and dangerous than ever. The army intelligence service known as the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) will be one of the most dangerous patrons of terror in the world, especially with the Haqqani network.” He went on to explain that “The Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Hazari groups do not want to be governed by the Pashtun Taliban. Urban Afghans don’t want the medieval Islamic Emirate. Nearly three-quarters of Afghans are under 30 years old and have lived their lives in a relatively open society.
