GLOBAL CHINA: REGIONAL INFLUENCE AND STRATEGY
In just a few decades, China has established itself as a global actor with interests spanning the globe and the capacity to act on them. The Brookings Foreign Policy project “Global China: Assessing China’s Growing Role in the World” explores China’s efforts to expand its influence across different geographic regions, as well as implications of those efforts for the international order. These papers identify the tools China is relying upon to advance its interests and how these actions are being met by local actors. It highlights China’s reliance on economic statecraft and the strategic calculations informing China’s ambitions. The outstanding issue is whether China will be able to translate its bold ambitions into realities.
